2020 Song 03:10
Well I've been trying to avoid it Cuz these 2020 songs become annoying but I'm only human, i'm no better Can't help myself, so I might as well sing along So here's my song... Like a candle in the wind, we've all be blowin' out of control, no earthly way of knowing Where the shadows are gonna land, or how the light will bend but don't burn out, just turn around, and learn to dance Ya gotta put one foot in front of the other move left, to right - don't let your light get smothered Lord knows, folks, this won't be easy But if we keep on moving, we keep on moving on It won't be long... Now, I'm not trying to belittle The circumstance or the folks caught in the middle I only mean to contend, that it ain't out of our hands Uncertainty's a certainty, my friend This ain't the end.

about

I kind of accidentally wrote this song over the summer after hearing Ben Folds' song about 2020 / COVID19. I'm a huge fan of Ben Folds (Five, mainly), but wasn't really into his tune, so I thought I'd give it a shot myself. (I mean, SOMEbody's gotta do it... right!?) Ben's tune was all sad and plaintive, so I wanted to write something more upbeat and hopeful, and what better way to do that than to channel some old school Motown groove?

2020 has been a shite year for lots of folks. I am more than fortunate to be able to write and record music through everything going on. It helps me to write, and I happen to write in melody. I know the message of this song is a little trite, cliche, and maybe even a bit preachy, but I truly believe that thing will get better. "It ain't out of our hands" to quote... myself, so take heart and stay bright! And VOTE most importantly!!

PS: A live acoustic version of this song is to be featured on a compilation album which was recorded in place of Trail Mix Music Festival. The fest happens each year (except this one) in my hometown of Homewood, IL. any money I make on this song will go to support next year's festival and local music in the south suburbs of Chicago. Be sure to follow @sosubmusic on instagram or @trailmixhomewood for updates on year-round music and next year's fest!
