Charon's Obol

Way down the ancient river I will go
Way down the ancient river I will go
At last! At Last!
I've found someone who will lead me
At last! At Last!
I've found someone who could free me
Two coins inside my eyes
I hope to finally hitch a ride
I've got to be free
Born on the wrong side - that's me
Way down the ancient river we will row
way down the ancient river take my soul
At Last! At Last!
I've found someone who believes me
At Last! At Last!
I've found someone who could free me

Livin' in Sin
02:26
|
|||
I've been livin in sin
I've been wandering in,
Slipping out through the back,
and then knocking again
I've been livin in sin
Thought I'd give it a spin
I'm striking a match
with a wink and a grin
I throw my head back and laugh:
Let the fireworks begin!
We've been livin in sin
and even though we are kin
I'll be kicking your ass
if you stick out your chin
We've been livin in sin
and there's a lesson within:
you can't take out the trash
'till you fill up the bin
We've been livin in sin
And there's no way to win
You can't have a blast
without pullin' the pin
So raise a glass at last:
Let the fireworks begin!

Tuesday Night Lullaby
03:01
|

Tuesday night
Lullaby and goodnight
Tuesday night
Lullaby and goodnight
I'm just sittin' here
tryin' to get on in my time
Sittin' on the front porch
waitin' for the back door to bring home my wife
Cuz, I can't settle down
I can't seem to ease my mind
with no amount of singin,
no amount of drinkin' no amount of wine
I don't even know what's wrong
I don't even know what's wrong
Tuesday night
Lullaby and goodnight
Tuesday night
Lullaby and goodnight
"How you doin' man?"
"well I guess I'm doin' fine"
I'm talkin in the mirror
Like some kind of theater playing in my mind
I've been stewin' man
I've been chewin' on my tongue
I can't describe the feeling
I can't deal with it - that's why I'm writing songs
I don't even know what's wrong
I don't even know what's wrong

Two Glasses
03:39
|
|||
I got home Friday evening
I was ready to rock n' roll
I got straight to drinkin'
at my local watering hole
I had two at the bar,
One more when I got back home
Then I met my wife for a nightcap that night...
These days two glasses of wine
and I'm done drinkin' for the night
These days three slices of pizza pie
and I'm gonna have a rough one tomorrow!
Old age, why you gotta be so cruel?
I can't do the things that i used to do
Old age, man you play me for a fool
and you'd think by now I'd learn your rules

Beer & a Borrowed Pen
03:12
|
|||
I was plucked from the earth from where I stood
High above the neighborhood
I don't know where I've been I guess I should
retrace my steps... wish I could
Beer & a borrowed pen, I was feeling good
Lost all hope of being understood
I don't know where I've been I guess I should
retrace my steps... wish I could

Leave a note

I am a simple man
I sing my simple songs
Hopin' and prayin' that all my complainin'
will finally please someone
I know there's more to life
than strummin' this guitar
and I mean to start livin' as free as the pidgeons
as pure as those purdy stars
I could leave a note in the morning
and be gone by the afternoon
I could leave without any warning
But, by golly, miss Molly, there's just so much to do
See, I've got this vision in mind
of life on the open road
Out in Arizona, sippin' a Corona
Outside of my mobile home
Or, maybe we'll move to the suburbs
I would be fine with that!
But we bought a house in the city - well ain't a pity!
Nah, I'm just kidding - I'm glad.
I could leave a note in the morning
and be gone by the afternoon
I could leave without any warning
But by golly, miss Molly, I could never leave you
I am a simple man
and I need to simplify:
Throw my phone in the river, start punishing this liver,
become a true liver of life
Cuz, I miss the forests and oceans
and lonesome walks under the moon
and I suppose I could have 'em
but I coudn't fathom being lonely again for you
No, I wouldn't trade you for the moon!
