lyrics

I had fell asleep watching turbine towers blink
in the passenger seat of the car
and I had a dream of a science fiction scene:
red lights touching down on a farm

And at the gas station half a mile up the road
I told 'em I'd seen a UFO
They didn't believe me, but I didn't blame them
And I guess I woke up just then

Cuz when I heard you laugh, I cried,
"Hey man, you gotta believe me!"
"Relax" you said "you're fine.
You were talking in your sleep"

And "it's alright, it's alright
you were dreaming, but it's alright now"

In West Lafayette, where we spent the whole weekend
I took a nap on your mother's couch
And when I woke up, I wasn't quite sure where I was
"this could be heaven," I said out loud

Cuz under the table: sunlight on the floor
Sunlight is what I've been looking for
Church bells in the distance were starting to ring,
Birds singing in spite of everything

And this is going to make you laugh, but I cried
tears of joy, cuz it finally hit me:
I don't have to wait to enjoy
yeah, I guess this is it

And it's alright, it's alright
if I'm dreaming - I don't mind now

I had some drinks with a neighbor recently
and passed out on the kitchen floor
and in the morn, I remembered the night before
told myself "you can't do this anymore once the baby is born"

I was out in the garden in the middle of the night
trying to find a good place to hide
the cigarette carton that I just bought
hoping I wouldn't get caught

Then I stumbled and i fell and my head hit the grass
and I won't repeat what I said - it's too crass
but I got mad and I got back on my feet and said...

"alright! alright! no more drinking - this is the last time
and I won't lie anymore I've been dreaming of this whole life
my whole life now"

The half moon looks like half a watermelon slice
gone white as a ghost tonight
As I fall asleep with you laying next to me,
half smiling, I close my eyes
